Is Anybody Out There?

Blogging on the whole is very new to me. I feel that it is the best way to create a community of people who share the same beliefs in Cannabis that I have, and to educate those who have not yet been shown the scientific data showing the harmlessness and medicinal value of the plant.

But so far I don't feel like I'm reaching anyone. I feel like my blog is a little tiny planet and I'm the only person on it, and as we all know  "In cyberspace no one can hear your screams". All I'm asking is for a reply to a post or an email just so I know that my views are shared somewhere.

I would love to hear from you guys! Leave comments, E-mail anything.

Well, I gotta get outta here, please start to give me feedback it's the only way to legalization! Remember:-

Sativa VS Indica

In the world of medical Cannabis medicine is split into two main groups based on their general effects, Sativas and Indicas. This may seem strange to most UK smokers, who due to the illegality of Cannabis are not offered detailed (if any) information about the product they are buying, but I will give a general overview of each type and give examples of some strains.

Sativa
Sour Grape Haze (Sativa)
Cannabis strains which fall into the Sativa category can be identified by having a more heady, cerebral high and less of a body effect. Sativa strains are identified by their high THC percentages. THC is the most famous cannabinoid and is responsible for the majority of the psychoactive effects of Cannabis such as:-

  • Uncontrollable giggling
  • Losing train of thought
  • Enhancement of sight and hearing
  • Feeling alert
  • Reduction in social anxiety
  • Reduction in depressive symptoms
  • Increased mental focus
In terms of the actual plant a Sativa plants are generally tall with thin leaves and have longer, less dense buds than Indica strains. The flowering time for Sativa strains is also considerably longer than that of Indicas. The buds of a Sativa strain will generally have clear/milky crystals (Trichomes) on them, this indicates a higher amount of THC.

Medical uses for Sativa strains vary widely and as a result they are used to treat many ailments a few examples of ailments treated with Sativa strains are:-
Sativa VS Indica Leaf Comparison
  • Depression
  • Headache and Migraine
  • Nausea
  • Anorexia
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Chronic Pain
Some well known Sativa strains are:-

  • Haze
  • Sour Diesel
  • OG
Indicas
Strains which fall into the Indica category give more of a body high than a cerebral high and are often seen as the more medicinal strains of Cannabis. In contrast to the Sativa varieties, Indicas generally have a low THC percentage and a higher CBD percentage. CBD is a cannabinoid which is much less known than THC. It is responsible for the body effects of cannabis such as:-
  • Couchlock (Feeling as if you are glued to your chair)
  • Drowsiness
  • Increased appetite (The Munchies)
  • Body euphoria
  • Relaxation (Physical and Mental)
An Indica plant is generally much shorter than a Sativa with broader leaves and more dense buds. Indica strains generally have a short flowering time in comparison with Sativas and are more suited to indoor growing. The trichomes on an Indica plant are more amber than clear/milky, this indicates a higher percentage of CBD. Most Cannabis sold in the UK is in the Indica category due to it's shorter flowering time and higher yield per plant when compared to a sativa.

Indica strains are used to treat more physical issues and ailments than Sativas. A few examples of ailments treated using Indica dominant strains are:-
  • Epilepsy
  • Neuralgia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle Spasms
  • ADHD/ADD
Some well known Indica strains are:-
  • Afghani
  • G-13
  • Cheese
Hybrids
Most medical Cannabis is not exclusively Sativa nor Indica, but a combination of the two. These strains are known as hybrids. Growers cross genetics from different strains in order to create new strains with specific effects, much in the same way that we cross breed different dogs to achieve different features. Most hybrids are either Indica or Sativa dominant. Meaning that they have more characteristics of either Sativa or Indica which can give a general idea of the medicine's overall effects.

Some well known Hybrid strains include:-

  • AK-47
  • White Rhino
  • White Widow
I hope that this overview has given you some insight into the world of medical Cannabis and has helped you to understand that cannabis is more than just a drug it is a complex natural pharmaceutical.

Product Review: Juicy Jays Rolling Papers

This is a review of the Juicy Jay line of rolling papers as a whole. I know that this is not  necessarily the fairest review, but I have tried many of the flavours (nowhere near all of them) in the line and have come to similar conclusions. I am in no way affiliated with Juicy Jays this is just a personal review of my own opinions.

Price Paid - £2 per pack
Pretty steep considering I normally pay less that £1 for most other brands

The Packaging
Juicy Jays come packaged in the usual cardboard sleeves which near enough all rolling papers come in, and you get 32 in a pack. The main difference to other brands is that the box is sealed in a clear plastic wrapping which can sometimes be a bit fiddly to open. The boxes are very colourful and show pictures of the flavour of the paper (e.g. Banana = Pictures of Bananas). The packaging is very attractive and catches your eye when browsing the shelves at the smoke shop. I must admit that the reason I first tried Juicy Jays was because of the pretty packaging.
CannaScore - 8/10

The Paper
Juicy Jays are made of 100% hemp. And this is a great thing in my book! Inhaling smoke from conventional timber made paper is much worse for you than inhaling hemp smoke. The paper itself is white and also has pictures printed onto it which again depict its flavour. These pictures worried me at first because I automatically thought that inhaling the ink would be harmful to me, but was impressed to find out that Juicy Jays only use 100% natural soy inks which are not as harmful as synthetic inks. The paper is a little thick for my liking and get very ashy when smoking, but overall the pros weigh out the cons.

The Flavour
Now to the part you've all been waiting for, the flavour! This is probably the most unfair part of my review as I am generalising the whole brand from the flavours I have tried. So far I have tried most of the fruit flavours (apart from "Very Cherry" and "Raspberry" because I generally do not like other foods in these flavours) and a couple of the more novelty flavours ("Milk Chocolate" "Peanut Butter" and "Candy Cane"). And this is where Juicy Jays disappointed me, as I had stocked up on several flavours in order to sample them, but to my surprise they all tasted extremely similar. The general flavour of all of the papers I sampled was very sweet, synthetic and overpowering when licking the gum strip.

Another disappointing factor of the Juicy Jay flavour is that only the person rolling actually gets to taste the paper (unless your friends all lick the end of your roll). The taste does not transfer very well to the actual smoke, this disappointed me as I anticipated a lovely lungful of banana flavoured smoke but instead got an average but yet still lovely weedy toke. The sugar based flavouring increased the harshness of the smoke substantially and induced a couple of coughing fits. Overall the taste aspect of these papers (their main selling point) was lacking and this disappointed me.
CannaScore - 4/10

Overview
Overall Juicy Jays are good as a novelty item for special occasions or those random stoney purchases but would never replace my regular brand of rolling papers. In terms of packaging and paper these are in a league of their own with eye-catching packaging and pretty pictures on the actual paper. But on the flavour side of things, which is the main selling point of Juicy Jays, they fell way short of the mark. The flavours which i have tried are, in my opinion very similar and synthetic. A harsh smoke is made by these papers and my overall smoking experience was diminished. A lovely idea but maybe Juicy Jay need to work on their flavourings.

Cannabis And I

My personal relationship with the Cannabis plant began at the tender age of 14. I had always seen my parents and their friends smoking "posh cigarettes" while growing up, but my curiosity never extended beyond wondering what made those cigarettes so "posh". This all changed one summer's day during lunch at my catholic convent school when I was offered to try a "posh cigarette" for myself.

Until this point I had never smoked anything in my life and I'm pretty sure that this was pretty evident to all who were present. I inhaled the skunky cloud and the obligatory first timer coughing fit began. After a couple of minutes of trying to keep my lungs inside my chest it was my turn again, this time no coughing just a beautiful sensation of my eyes opening at the back and my body being caressed by warm waves of stoneyness. I instantly knew that this was definitely for me.

My relationship with Cannabis remained a social one for about two years, only smoking at parties and with my friends in the local park on a Friday night afterschool. I started using Cannabis on my own in the run up to my GCSE exams, I found that it helped me to handle the stress and to focus my mind on revision. That's when it occurred to me that maybe "weed" wasn't a party drug but a medicine. After that revelation I began smoking almost everyday before school as I felt that it cleared my mind and controlled the symptoms of my Essential Tremor which had caused me years of self-consciousness and confidence issues.

As a person I have always been scientifically minded and always aspired to become a Doctor, so naturally I was curious as to why this "dangerous drug" was helping me in so many ways. I began researching online and in medical journals about Cannabis's medicinal qualities and the Endo-Cannabinoid system. The knowledge I was gaining was reassuring me that my choice to involve Cannabis in my life was the right choice and to this day I have never looked back.

I am now a regular smoker, and I am proud to admit it! Even though my country outlaws Cannabis and treats people who seek it's therapeutic effects as criminals, I feel a need to speak up for the plant and to share the knowledge I have gained. Through spreading and sharing this knowledge we can change the laws surrounding Cannabis and give people the safe access they need in order to fully utilise the power of the plant.
